Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection for SharePoint, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams now available

Security and compliance is an ongoing process, not a steady state. It is constantly maintained, enhanced, and verified by highly-skilled, experienced and trained personnel. We strive to keep software and hardware technologies up to date through robust processes. To help keep Office 365 security at the top of the industry, we use processes such as the Security Development Lifecycle; we also employ techniques that throttle traffic and prevent, detect, and mitigate breaches.

At Microsoft we continue systematic approach to disrupting attacks through eliminating weaknesses by eliminating the vectors of attack themselves by implementing architectural changes some of which leverage virtualization, containers, and other types of technologies.

In April 2015 we launched Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection to help customers secure their environment from evolving security threats providing protection against unknown malware and viruses, real time, time-of-click protection against malicious URLs, and rich reporting and URL trace capabilities.

In our continued effort to address the modern threat landscape, today we’re announcing General Availability of Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection for SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.

Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams uses signals and smart heuristics as quality indicators to identify the files within your tenant that may contain malicious content, which includes correlating the file activity signals from SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams within your tenant with the Microsoft Security Intelligence Graph threat feeds.

Examples of file activity signals include anonymous, company wide or explicit sharing, or activity from guest users. Threat feeds that Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection leverages include known malware in email or SharePoint, Windows Defender/Defender ATP detections, suspicious or risky logins or other indicators of irregular file activity within your tenant.

A peek into the scorecard

Included in the Network Guide download is a powershell script (CQM.ps1) that automates the execution and collection of the SQL queries discussed in the Network Guide. When you point the scorecard at your data, it will generate a bunch of views so you can get a handle on the distribution of audio streams in your environment, which ones are showing a high percentage of poor streams and how they are trending over time. The scorecard view then presents all this in a summary table that correlates with the ten elements of CQM just as you see in the CQM poster. The areas are grouped by Red (Server Plant), Blue (Last Mile) and Green (Endpoints). A final area is classified as Unmanaged at the bottom which shows all external streams (media streams originating on the internet and coming into Lync via Edge servers).

First we’ll talk about the supporting views and then the Scorecard view to determine how to make improvements.

The Stream Distribution view shows you the types of audio streams used most in your environment, along with the proportion of those streams that are poor.

The scorecard also breaks the poor streams out by type, so you can see the top contributors. Here’s an example of a chart in Poor Stream Distribution view:

You can also look at trends for each type of stream. The image below, for example, shows a view of the trends for the Mediation to Gateway stream.

These views show you where the hot spots are in your environment. The Scorecard view shows you what you can do with these hot spots across ten categories to improve your call quality.

The Scorecard view correlates with the ten elements of CQM and shown visually in the CQM poster. The areas are grouped by Red (Server Plant), Blue (Last Mile) and Green (Endpoints).

For example, here is the view of devices and their corresponding mean opinion scores (MOS) across an organization’s users:

You can customize the thresholds for each element in the scorecard. If scorecard item is Red or Yellow, check the associated set of actions suggested in the last column. In this devices example, you should look in the TopIssues view to see the worst devices in your environment and then check the results of the utility query tab (Util_1_Users_Devices_Streams) to find all the users who have these devices so you can work with them to troubleshoot and potentially replace them.

In addition to listing the worst performing devices, the TopIssues view lists the top 10 problem areas across each of the remaining CQM categories. For example, here is a list of the top ten issues for an organization’s Mediation to Gateway streams:

In this example, you can see the 10.98.6.58 gateway is the common element across all of the Mediation Servers. Your next step here is to take a closer look at the gateway configuration and the network devices in common between the mediation servers and this gateway to figure out what could be causing the high percentage of poor streams.

NEW OFFICE WEB APPS, NOW LIVE ON SKYDRIVE

The new Office Web Apps are now live!

Thanks to all 750,000 of you who have helped put the Office Web Apps Preview through its paces since it went live in July. This scale of use and thousands of pieces of feedback prior to general availability has helped us tweak and improve the quality of the latest Office Web Apps update. In addition to addressing the top customer requests and issues, we’ve also fine-tuned Office Web Apps to work with the final version of IE10, Windows 8, and iOS 6.

And today, the latest and greatest Office Web Apps experience has been rolled out across SkyDrive and Outlook.com.

Since first available in 2010, Office Web Apps have ensured that the most common Office tools are always within reach. With just a browser, you can access your documents and communicate and work with anyone, from anywhere. And in this release we’ve focused on adding editing and formatting controls, consistent co-authoring/collaboration support across the web apps and expanded device support, including touch-friendly editing from tablets. Across the apps, there’s also a clean new look and feel, informed by the design language you’re seeing from across Microsoft.

In Word Web App, you’ll see graphics, images, and layout with high fidelity, including new support for viewing and adding comments. Format and design documents right from a browser with commonly used features from Word on the desktop, including new page layout tools, picture tools and word count.



With Excel Web App you get essential spreadsheet features, such as merge cells, context menus, auto-fit columns, formula assistance, fill handle and AutoSum. Visualize your data with high fidelity charts, including 3D. And you can now print right from your browser and rename or add sheets as you need.



When using PowerPoint Web App, presentations look like they do on the desktop, with high-resolution slides, full transitions, and viewable comments. Audio and video playback is now supported, even from a tablet or phone. The ability to insert images, apply transitions and animations, or add a pre-designed theme allow you to add polish to your presentation from the browser. And new co-authoring and comment support in PowerPoint Web App improves collaboration in the cloud.
