Outlook 2016 for Mac is adding your most requested features

Send your emails when you want

The best time to write an email and the best time to send an email may not always align. With our new Send Later feature, you can write an email now and schedule it to be sent automatically at the perfect time. Once you are done drafting your email, click the drop-down next to Send and then select Send Later. Choose the date and time to send the email and the message is saved to your Drafts folder. When the scheduled time comes, the email is automatically sent—you don’t even need to have Outlook or your computer open!

This feature is available to Office Insider Fast users today and coming to Office 365 subscribers in July. For more details, see Can I delay or schedule the delivery of email messages in Outlook 2016 for Mac?

Use read and delivery receipts to track your emails

Sometimes you need to be notified that an important email has been delivered to and read by your recipient. Outlook for Mac now supports both read and delivery receipts. A delivery receipt confirms delivery of your email message to the recipient’s mailbox, but not that the recipient has seen it or read it. A read receipt confirms that your message was opened.

In Outlook for Mac, the message recipient can decline to send read receipts. For more details, see Request a read receipt or delivery notification.

Spend less time writing emails

Sending the same email over and over again? Email templates are great for sending messages that include information that infrequently changes from message to message. Compose and save a message as a template and then reuse it when you want it. New information can be added before the template is sent as an email message. For more details, see Can I create email templates in Outlook 2016 for Mac?

Stay on top of your day by creating calendar events and tasks from emails

Emails contain the important information you need to get things done throughout the day. Often, however, those tasks need to be scheduled as part of your day to get completed on time. You can now drag and drop emails directly to your calendar to reserve that time. The subject of the email becomes the calendar subject, and the body of the email goes in the notes field.

For those of you who are task users, you can do the same thing. Drag the email to your task view to create new items.

Improving the account setup experience

We’ve simplified the Add Account experience in Outlook for Mac. Previously, you needed to know details about what type of account you have (e.g., Office 365 or Exchange, IMAP or POP). Now you can simply enter your email address and Outlook detects your account settings and guides you through the process. And if you’ve signed in to other Office apps before launching Outlook for the first time, you will be asked if you want to add that account automatically. For more details, see Set up Outlook on your Mac.

How do I get all these new improvements?
The Send Later feature is available to Office Insider Fast users today on version 15.36 (170606) and will be available to all Office 365 subscribers in July. The Request a Delivery and Read receipts, email templates, and creating calendar events and tasks from emails additions are available today to all Office 365 subscribers on version 15.35 (170610). The improved account setup experience is available to all Outlook Mac users on version 15.34 (170515).

Centralized Deployment for Office 365 launched by Microsoft

Murrieta, CL: Microsoft in its recently made announcement had talked about the release of its new “Centralized Deployment for Office 365 web add-ins” feature.

Making use of the PowerShell scripts or the Office 365 admin center, the latest feature enables the administrators to easily organize the add-ins to a particular user, a group of users or a complete organization based on one’s preference.

The release and preview of the particular service has been marked at the end of the year 2016.
Microsoft has also announced in a post on the company’s Office blog that the users can easily view all the add-ins that are installed on the ribbon of their MS-Office applications like Word, Excel or PowerPoint running on Mac, Windows or Office online, just by simply opening these applications. This will further permit all the organizations (whether small or large) to expand their Office with the help of the enhanced and important services across each and every platform.

To demonstrate the efficiency of the service, the usage case of the “Genetec Inc” (a Canadian supplier of access control and license identification solutions combined in a single platform, called Security Center) is concerned and praised by Microsoft.

“Genetec” makes use of “Qorus” add-ins that helps Office 365 users to search for proper content to add to proposals, pitches, emails and reports as well as to create accurate and efficient business-related documents.
Microsoft explained in a distinct but associated post on its blog that “Genetec’s bid response team” on realizing the requirement for boosting up of its content’s value along with the efficiency, joined hand with the “Qorus” to focus on content in Microsoft OneDrive and Microsoft SharePoint Online for Business by creating separate Microsoft platform to make a better content easily available.

The post also includes that, the tasks such as creating new documents, increasing cooperation with subject matter experts, etc. is simplified by the “Qorus” add-ins.  It also provides the “Genetec” employees to have great prospect on its usefulness for tracking the usage of the content.

This latest feature (Centralized Deployment) of Microsoft is offered to almost all the supported Office languages. Another great news is that this is compatible with all recent editions of Office as well as of Exchange, that are OAuth-enabled.

One of the blog also states that, “the telemetry will be made available for the IT admins and the developers soon, to help them to view the facts about the deployments in the Office 365 admin center and to view their add-in deployments in the Office ISV Seller Dashboard respectively”.

Deferred Channel build now available for the Office 365 client apps

Enhanced admin settings for User Software Page

Starting today, IT admins also have the ability to further customize the User Software page. Admins now have the option to select the Office version and update channel (for 2016 apps only) a user can see and download directly from the Office 365 User Software Page. The changes IT admins make on the Admin Center will go into effect on February 23, 2016, giving admins the opportunity to change the default update channel and decide which install links to expose to their users.

Download and deploy the Deferred Channel build today

We invite you all to download and start using the Deferred Channel builds within your organization and see for yourself how Office 2016 has helped millions of users become more productive than ever.
In addition to this very first Deferred Channel build, we’re also pleased to announce that we will release the next First Release for Deferred Channel build in the next few weeks. This will be a fully supported production quality build for testing, with a targeted release date as a standard build in the Deferred Channel in June 2016. We encourage you to validate this build against your environment, applications, add-ins and macros.

We recognize that deploying and validating Office updates has sometimes been time consuming for IT admins. We believe the enhancements we have made since the launch of Office 2016 will help reduce the overall validation process, making it quicker to get these builds into your users’ hands. We are not done yet; we are continuing to invest more in our deployment tools in order to further assist IT admins and developers to validate Office against their environment and line-of-business applications.
